Being You

by Carol on September 5, 2008

If you are in a relationship with a very successful partner - and truth be told, this can happen even when you are very successful yourself - you may confront a powerful dynamic that overwhelms your ability to balance your partner’s agenda with the things that matter to you.

Your sense of self has difficulty competing with all of the hype, the schedule, and the sense of importance that comes with a partner who is intently focused on their career. In this situation, you may wind up letting this powerful dynamic make choices for you, choices that aren’t necessarily the ones you would make, or ones that would make you happy.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. Your life can become balanced and productive in the midst of this unique dynamic, no matter what your goals may be.

You can learn to:

  • Communicate with your partner in a way that creates results instead of arguments
  • Regain your sense of self-worth and purpose
  • Stop taking your cues from everything and everyone around you and start creating a life that reflects who you really are
  • Become adept at making good choices
  • Get the support you need to develop and sustain change
  • Regain hope and excitement about the life you’re living now and the
    future you’re moving toward.
